Fabric Interconnect Networking Software

Concurrent Technologies announces the release of their Fabric Interconnect Networking Software (FIN-S, pronounced ‘finesse’) to complement their range of Single Board Computers and Fabric Switch products employing high speed serial backplane interconnect fabrics i.e. VPX™, VXS™, AMC product ranges. FIN-S provides a high performance, low latency, communications mechanism for multiple host boards to intercommunicate across high speed serial fabrics i.e. PCI Express® (PCIe), Serial RapidIO® (SRIO) and 10 Gigabit Ethernet (10GigE).

The FIN-S software reduces the burden on application developers and system integrators by offering a portable and scalable communications software stack for inter-board communication. This is achieved by abstracting the physical communications channel (backplane fabric) and providing a standard API for inter-board communication. FIN-S provides the choice of two communications interfaces – use of the ubiquitous TCP/IP sockets interface suited to high performance embedded computing or a message based Direct IPC (Inter-Process Communications) Library interface suited to highly embedded applications. Both provide feature-rich, high throughput, low-latency solutions incorporating DMA and Multicast capability.

FIN-S includes support for PCIe, SRIO and 10GigE fabrics implemented in distributed or centrally switched topologies, and is supported on Windows®, Linux® and VxWorks® operating systems. This comprehensive level of support allows customers to protect heir investment in software development and leverage Intellectual Property reuse to a greater degree as applications can easily be migrated across fabrics and operating systems. Ultimately, FIN-S provides the customer with a solution to reduce time spent in development and improve time-to-market.

Glen Fawcett, CEO for Concurrent Technologies, commented, “This application level software is an essential addition to our product portfolio which relies on high speed serial interconnect fabrics for communication across the backplane. It has been developed to ensure our high performance hardware products can be integrated easily at system level and allows our customers to concentrate on their own application software development thereby helping them to get products to market quickly.

Full support is offered for Concurrent Technologies rugged and non-rugged Single Board Computers featuring the latest generation of Intel® Core™ i7, Intel® Core™ 2 Duo and Intel® Atom™ on VPX™, VXS™ and AMC architectures.
